Overview of the programme
pfeg’s volunteering programme brings the expertise of people working in the financial sector directly into the classroom to benefit young people in schools and education environments.
The programme was started in 2006 by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) in partnership with pfeg in order to explore how volunteers with a finance background could work alongside teachers to enhance their personal finance education.
ICAEW's members have been volunteering in schools, helping to deliver long lasting benefits to young people. In the last couple of years organisations like the Personal Finance Society have also joined the scheme, and we are continually looking to grow the programme by involving more organisations.
How it works
pfeg match schools who want to input from financial experts, with volunteers local to them.
The programme is facilitated by pfeg from start to finish, from processing volunteer CRB checks, training, targeted marketing to schools local to volunteers, providing ongoing advice and guidance and materials and gathering evaluation.
Schools request volunteers through pfeg, then these opportunities are advertised to appropriate volunteers. Once a 'match' has been made, the teacher and volunteer work together to plan and deliver lessons or events to pupils in the most rewarding way possible.
Are you an organisation who could support this programme?
We are always looking to increase the number of volunteers who can offer their time to help young people in financial education, to enable us to provide a nationwide volunteering service to schools.
