Young Enterprise - various programmes
Young Enterprise offers an innovative range of activity based programmes across Primary, Secondary, further education and higher education that develop young people’s enterprise, economic wellbeing and financial capability. Each programme is delivered in school by a trained volunteer Business Adviser who brings practical knowledge and experience from their own workplace and provides the opportunity for schools and students to engage with a local employer.
All Young Enterprise programmes are based on the principle of “learning by doing” allowing students to gain a hands-on applied learning experience in a real work based context. Programmes are fully mapped across to the primary and secondary curriculum as well as to a range of qualifications including the new Diplomas.

Suitable for special educational needs
The Team Enterprise programme is specially designed for pupils with special needs. As in the main Company programme, pupils work in teams to set up and run businesses, with help from a Link Teacher and advisers from local businesses. Team Enterprise runs for two years as opposed to one for the main programme. This programme offers an opportunity for pupils to work as a team to understand how business works and to develop financial planning skills as well as a range of key life skills such as communication.
Assessor's comments
The programmes offer an opportunity for pupils to work as a team to understand how business works and to develop financial planning skills. The emphasis is on enterprise rather than on personal finance, and the least realistic element at present is probably that of wages. However, there is plenty of scope for developing personal finance issues if required. The involvement of an enthusiastic "link teacher" is also an important element of the programme.
