The Enterprise Game

The Enterprise Game has been designed by teachers and students, for teachers and students in the context of the statutory requirement for 14-16 year olds to learn about enterprise. Typically 5 5 students play this board game, 4 running their own company and 1 as the banker. The aim of the game is to become the most successful company. Players use their entrepreneurial skills to run their business as they make, sell and deliver products to 24 customers around the board. Trials of the game carried out with over 1100 students, aged from 11 to 19, have demonstrated that the game helps young people to learn how business works in a simple and yet very powerful way.

Assessor's comments

The game can be used in ordinary lesson time, during PSHE, or on an enterprise or industry day. It can be used both with single classes and with (half) year groups. Typically students play as individuals, but a team dimension is possible based on the four different factory colours. Students can be playing the game within 10-15 minutes. Purchasers also receive free access to many extra resources that can be downloaded from the game’s website, for example a 'before & after' test which allows the teacher to measure the difference that the game makes to players' understanding of business and economic ideas.
