My Money - Guide to the Child Trust Fund
A free resource pack for Key Stage 2 teachers containing a host of activities and lesson plans plus a large classroom poster to help explain the Child Trust Fund to pupils in an easy-to-understand and fun way. The guide delivers the teaching of key personal finance learning objectives relating to the Child Trust Fund for pupils, but also helps educate teachers about the scheme as a whole. Key messages are delivered to pupils through a ‘Growing and Saving’-themed fold-out poster, as a visual stimulus for the teacher to use while introducing the topic to the class. The poster is accompanied by a teacher booklet that provides the teacher with clear information about the Child Trust Fund and also includes two full lesson plans for teaching about the topic through PSHE. Photocopiable activity sheets included.

Assessor's comments
This resource is very well laid out and provides concise information for the pupils and parents. The work sheets are very helpful in providing a method of reinforcing the message to the pupils as well as giving them the opportunity to make decisions for themselves. Objectives and Learning Outcomes are clearly stated and methods of differentiation also provided. The Key facts of CTF are clearly displayed and are suitable for both pupils and parents.
A well organised resource which gives teachers activities that are fun and use a range of approaches to teach children about Child Trust Funds. The worksheets are well set out and give pupils opportunities to reflect on their own lives and how important a CTF can be for achieving their wants and needs.

Fiona Ellis's comment:
Guide to the Child Trust Fund
This is a great resource about savings. Very well explained, and includes the all important factual information you need about the Child Trust Fund (CTF). Be careful though – only children born on or after 1 Sept 2002 qualify for the CTF so you’ll need to adapt things if you’re working with older children.
The first lesson looks at the needs and wants of a baby and then the difference between the pupils' own needs and wants. The second looks at how savings can grow and about choices they might make when they get older.
I think this resource works best when used alongside other ways of saving like into a money box, with a bank or building society or a credit union. This helps children understand there are choices understand there are choices available to them as they get older.
