Money Works: It's your business
Money Works is a themed resource, available online and in booklet with CD, aimed at supporting the teaching and learning of personal finance education at ages 14-19.
It provides a variety of challenging and engaging activities at levels one, two and three. Common to all three levels is the progress of a young person’s employment with a large supermarket.
The resource is made up of Word and PDF topic outlines and resources for each level, as well as a standalone unit on money, customers and business. The scenario covered in each topic is introduced by a hand-drawn animation, and the resource is supplemented with talking heads films of Santander staff talking about real life subjects such as moving abroad, financial difficulties, corporate social responsibility etc. The resources are designed to be used flexibly and adapted by teachers.
The resource is aimed at economics and business studies teachers who teach personal finance education as part of a qualification that they are delivering, such as: the Diploma in Business, Administration and Finance (levels 1-3); a range of BTEC qualifications; ASDAN awards and a number of GCSE qualifications, for example the AQA Economics GCSE. Equally PSHE teachers will be able to use elements of this resource to enhance their provision of personal finance education.

Origin of resource
This resource was produced in England and meets the requirements of the English curriculum. All Quality Mark resources are designed for use across all UK countries, although they may be more suited to the country where the resource was produced and as such may need some adaptation.
Suitable for gifted and talented
Money Works offers sufficient challenge for unaided use by gifted and talented students.
Suitable for special educational needs
The multi-themed nature of Money Works makes it a very useful resource for SLD students. Starting with animations and talking heads videos which require no reading, and which the teacher can pause for questions and explanations, the lessons can move on to the written activities which are very accessible but SLD students will need support when using them.
Assessor's comments
What sets this resource aside from others dealing with similar and associated topics is its linking of the content to PLTS and functional skills in Maths, English and ICT, also its suggested use in the various courses in economics, business studies, the ASDAN personal finance award and various other qualifications including GCSE courses.
In addition to this, it explores some new ground, hitherto ignored by other resources, e.g. Islamic banking and finance, moving away from home to a new location, expatriation and the likely expenses involved.
Where it does deal with familiar topics such as the ways of purchasing items, bank accounts, credit and debt, etc. it uses a number of engaging methods to help the teacher bring the topics alive, e.g. pre-prepared power point demonstrations, animations, talking heads videos, and a series of well designed worksheets at levels 1, 2 and 3.
Each level of study is introduced with a topic outline and a description of the resources available. Curriculum links are embedded into each introduction. Spreadsheets are also included for topics on budgeting etc.
