The pack has been designed to be a flexible resource. It is divided into 6 units which can be used as standalone resources or combined to form pathways. There are three video modules, each of approximately 8 mins, which can be used alongside the information and activity cards.

The resource explains that the economy is made up of all our individual activities – at work, home, in the shops and even at school. It describes how the economy functions around individuals, businesses and government the demand and supply of goods and services and the prices we pay for them the links between the UK and the rest of the world and how the Bank of England uses interest rates to help keep the economy on track. There is also a comprehensive glossary.

Assessor's comments

Excellent resource which helps explain many financial and economic terms in a way that most pupils will be able to understand. This is done by well laid out, clearly explained information cards and a variety and range of activities. The DVD modules explore wider financial issues through an individual’s experience, and link well with the activity cards. The video covers three scenarios:
- Money Matters in which Anita wants to buy a holiday
- Playing Your Part in which Anita sets up an enterprise in order to make some money
- Keeping Control in which Anita’s business suffers a set back

There are three pathways that the students can follow
1 Money and Prices
2 The economy
3 Inflation and interest rates
The organisation of the materials enables teachers to use specific modules individually, although teachers might want to use the entire resource as it teaches pupils important information about the effect of the economy on their lives.

Made of Money

I was really worried that my pupils would switch off when we started talking about the economy but the main messages come through the DVD, which features a stroppy girl that pupils could related to (unfortunate but true) They soon get the message that you have to work to get what you want and money doesn't always come from the bank of Mum and Dad. The learning vaults are great and I learnt loads about how the economy works!
