Suitable for gifted and talented
With differentiation by outcome as a consideration, gifted and talented students could use these cards to good effect and with imagination, could come up with interesting solutions.
Suitable for special educational needs
The card format would be popular with SEN students and the use of the cards in mixed ability groups would enable the cards to be used. A slightly more structured approach might be useful with SEN students. The teachers’ guide places the card sets in order of ‘difficulty’.
Assessor's comments
A unique resource for introducing students to the ideas of personal finance, e.g. saving, spending, budgeting whilst also introducing them to mathematical concepts in a entertaining and applied way. Students have to solve financial problems for the Marks family, working in groups and using packs of colourful and attractive cards containing all the information they need in order to come up with a solution to problems which range from Debbi buying a pair of jeans to the family purchasing a new car. For a hands-on classroom tool which uses a kinaesthetic approach and which will appeal across key stages and ability groups, a few sets of these packs would benefit any school’s library of personal financial education resources.
