Finance World
An interactive online resource aimed young adults aged 16 upwards, designed to support the development of personal finance skills in a fun and engaging way. The free resource includes an interactive game and activities, downloadable fact sheets and real life case studies, and is designed for use on PCs or interactive whiteboards in the classroom or at home. Finance World builds on programmes developed for younger age groups and provides a flexible teaching aide to financial learning from age four through to adulthood.
Within the interactive game, students select world destinations and take on ‘secret agent missions’, stimulating learning around the themes of budgeting, careers, currency documents and income, saving and investing, and risk. Fact sheet ‘dossiers’ support the interactive game with information on the financial themes, along with a glossary of financial terms. Real life case studies feature young people and their association with such topics.
The teacher’s section includes an extensive list of extended learning material and a detailed explanation of how this programme links to the Adult Financial Capability framework objectives. There are also activities that young adults can practise on their own to further their understanding including sample CVs and budget sheets and guidance for parents to support learning at home.

Relevant subjects
Suitable for special educational needs
Nice and interactive games and therefore suitable, although help may be needed with the reading content, especially in the dossiers and case studies. There is also a suggestion to use KS3 or 4 materials on the same website.
Assessor's comments
There are a number of games used to introduce a topic which then has further information included in a dossier. The teacher notes include a valuable list of extending learning material which is the strength of the resource. There is also an extensive glossary.
The interactive spy mission game will prove very appealing to students and as they play it, they will build up a knowledge of financial issues to help them in the future. A comprehensive financial resource with all sorts of good advice about money for students in this age range.
