Case Study No. 55: Developing financial capability in mathematics - The Pocket Money Project, Balderstone Technology College, Rochdale
This case study (5 pages ) describes how Balderstone College tackled the development of financial education through the mathematics curriculum. The head of department was convinced that it was important for mathematicians to play a key role in developing financial capability but there was a need to ensure that resources developed were mathematically rich so as to encourage maths teachers to play a more prominent role in financial education. This will be a helpful case study for schools wanting to develop in this area. In addition to the case study the school developed a resource around the theme of pocket money that would provide a useful starting point for other schools.
