Case Study No. 29: Personal finance education & cultural diversity - New Year celebrations in Wiltshire communities at The George Ward School

Many schools in rural communities are aware that their students need to be exposed to a wider range of experiences to broaden their understanding of the world around them. This is especially true in the area of personal finance education. Citizenship teachers at the George Ward School felt it was necessary to plug gaps in pupils’ awareness of their local community. Working together, the pfeg School Adviser and lead teacher used personal finance education as the basis for delivering a 5 week programme designed to enable pupils to broaden their knowledge of local, national and international financial systems. They also learned about the financial impact of their conduct as a global consumer and citizen. This case study (12 pages) describes in detail the school’s experience, including teacher and student resources together with a PowerPoint presentation to download. These may encourage others to try a similar approach, or use this experience as the basis for their own planning.
