Case Study No. 19: Developing financial capability and promoting inclusion
At Oakwood School, for pupils with moderate learning difficulties, the teacher was initially unconvinced that she would be able to handle some of the financial issues with her class, who had a wide e range of learning needs. After some exploratory discussions it was decided that they might be able to focus on the number handling and communication elements of their ASDAN (Award Scheme – Development and Accreditation Network) course. This case study (13 pages) presents some of the ideas and schemes of work used at Oakwood. It also explores some of the current issues around the wider learning needs of young people which need to be addressed if we are to empower them to become financially capable.
