There are few resources that address how different
cultures view the financial world. As a first step to addressing this gap,
pfeg has produced three case studies that attempt to offer teachers
a brief glimpse into different cultures showing how those living in the UK
may experience and make sense of financial transactions and decisions.
Taking part in financial activity involves a combination of cultural
behaviour that mixes social and religious traditions. It is important that
young people understand that there are groups of people within society who
may experience financial activity differently from themselves and that there
are choices open to all young people in the way they deal with financial
decisions.
Supporting role play
Ideas could be used to provide a basis for a small scene to
be acted out. Stepping into someone else's shoes is a good way for
young people to experience new ideas and concepts.
Provide alternative ideas
Shows young people other ways of managing financial transactions
enabling a widening of choice and discussion opportunities.
Increase awareness
Look at cultural groups in a positive and practical way.
This is especially helpful where there is little or no cultural
diversity in a school or local area.
