| Mapping Matrix for Work Related Learning and Financial Capability |
QCA's Framework for Work Related Learning (2004) consists of 9 elements to be covered during Key Stage 4, providing students with good preparation for employability, being enterprising and being able to make informed choices.
DfES Financial Capability Guidance (2000) details the financial understanding, competence and responsibility essential for young people to make financial decisions and make the best of opportunities in today's changing world.
pfeg have produced a mapping matrix, below, which illustrates how the framework and the guidance are inter-related, showing how financial capability supports and reinforces the requirements of Work Related Learning and Enterprise Education. Schools have found this a useful tool, to help identify and prioritise the learning outcomes that are most important for your students.
How to use the mapping matrix
The nine QCA WRL elements run across the top of the matrix. You can click on these to change between the elements. Under each element there are three headings - financial understanding, financial competence, financial responsibility. These are taken from the DfES Guidance, and under each of the three sections you can click to view the related outcomes. Helpful ideas and examples of activities and projects in which students could participate are given under each outcome.
Outcomes on a blue background are taken from the DfES Financial Capability Guidance, and those on a peach background have been added in by pfeg. These tend to have a business and entrepreneurial focus, important to quality enterprise education.
Alongside the outcomes, relevant teaching resources that cover each outcome are referenced.
pfeg would welcome any feedback or additional statements of financial capability that could be considered for inclusion in the mapping matrix. Please contact us with your ideas at anna.dening@pfeg.org.
